Cairns versus Townsville

Having lived in Both Cairns and Townsville, it’s been very interesting talking to people to see what their views are in terms of living in each of these very different places.

A lot of people in Townsville have an issue with the tourists/backpackers in Cairns, and a lot of Cairns residents can’t understand how anyone could think Townsville is a better place to live!

There will never be a right or wrong answer, essentially both places offer different things to different people…. Me, personally – I prefer Cairns. As said in my previous post where I lived in Townsville was amazing, but overall once you get away from the strand area (coast) and look at the rest of Townsville it’s just one big suburbia. Cairns (IMO) has a lot more character, rainforest in abundance, each of the beach suburbs has their own personality. A short drive and you’re at Kuranda, in under an hour your’e at Port Douglas (what an awesome drive too) Further north you have the Daintrees and then Cape Tribulation. Apart from that look at the choice you have here in Cairns, the restaurants, Cafe’s, accommodation etc.
